Baby Oscar Born in Lockdown 2020
Updated: May 7
"We were lucky that Oscar arrived just before the lockdown came in to place, therefore my husband Tom was able to be with me for the whole labour experience in hospital. Life as we knew it was turned upside down, but all for the better! Having this new perfect little bundle in our family was beyond amazing and we loved having friends and family meet him in his first couple of weeks of life. However, now that we cannot see our loved ones, it makes me feel really sad that they are now missing out on him growing up so quickly! Zoom and FaceTime calls have been great and got us through, but it’s not the same. It’s horrible that they are not able to hug and kiss him and additionally for him to learn new faces. I’m sure he must be so bored of just seeing the same two people everyday!! Additionally, I feel like we are missing out on all those fun and exciting things you get to do on maternity leave, new baby classes, group mum walks etc!! On the other hand, lockdown has given us the opportunity for our new family unit to spend quality time together, and for Tom to be around far more than he would of been if life had carried on as normal. In an odd way, it’s been the best paternity leave for him!" - Francesca
Being a newborn photographer in Yorkshire it broke my heart that these memories could not be captured in the first weeks. I started this personal project through Zoom to document the feelings new parents are having and spread smiles on the way.
"I felt really honoured when I did the shoot, a bit emotional really. I had thought we’d miss out on a newborn shoot due to lockdown so I was so grateful we could still capture these moments.
Just before the shoot I did wonder how it would work. We have very old technology and I’m a bit useless with tech. I’m also no good with Zoom!
During the shoot it felt very relaxed. It was easy to follow your directions and you didn’t mind that I needed to change baby half way through. It was great you did the family shot first so Hannah could play.
I couldn’t believe it when I saw the image. Just couldn’t get my head around how you did it via Zoom?! Really pleased with the creation, we love it and such a lovely memory of Samuel’s early days. Thank you so much xxxxx" - Jen
